BALAKLAVA 25 oct 1854 CHARGE AUTHENTIC PATT 1796 SWORD
This one is a WORLD Class GEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with correct steel scabbard with an oval, silver escutcheon engraved BALACLAVA CHARGE 25TH OCT1854 scabbard is matching to sword & marked 17 over L, 26. Complete with orig 17th Lancer's Martinglae badge, 4 Jacket buttons & silver collar badge. Provenance: The sword was bought from the family of Corporal Arthur Berkleman, who joined the 17th Lancers on 1st July 1846 & discharded from Portobella Barracks at Dublin 27th November 1856. He came to Sydney NSW 1858. His military pension expired on the 6th Feb 1860. Berkleman died at Newtown Windsor, NSW 13th Jan 1904. Photocopies of discharge papers & records of service & orig map of the Crimea of the period will be included. A great sword.
